posted in Religion, Society by themaiden |Two students were expelled from California Lutheran High School because “their friendship was ‘uncharacteristic of normal girl relationships and more characteristic of a lesbian one’”. And since that violates the schools Christian code, then they were expelled.
The girls have filed a suit for discrimination and for damages due to the embarrassment of it all. There is some debate about the legality of the school’s actions– the topic is raised in the comments below the article– but what interests me, as is so often the case with these people, is the light this report shines upon the minds of the religious. What interests me is the sheer bankruptcy of thought, the collapse of rationality, indicated by the actions of the administration. You see, the girls were not caught in the act. They were not found flopping around a broom closet, or ‘assisting’ each other to lather up in a shower. They were not kissing in the halls, nor were they even holding hands. In fact, they were never seen to have physical contact at all. There is no mention of their flaunting or bragging or mentioning any relationship, though apparently the girls were interrogated until one of them admits she ‘loves’ the other. Well, this bit may indicate a relationship, but it may not. I can ask my girlfriend and she’d name at least two girls she ‘loves’ but not mean anything sexual by the admission. So, basically, they were expelled for no reason beyond ’somebody had a hunch’ or maybe somebody just had a dirty mind, and it doesn’t seem to have been the two girls who got booted.
