The vacuous right wing
posted in Politics by themaiden |It seem that the right wing will grasp at anything to leverage the cause. Matt Margolis, at BlogsForBush– the founder of the site, in fact–, has noted a National Center for Health Statistics report and quips…
Perhaps the Bush presidency is good for your health, too.
Blogs for Bush: The White House Of The Blogosphere: U.S. Death Rate Has Sharp Decline
Sigh…
There is very little this president could have done to effect these figures. In fact, there is little any president can do to alter these stats within the short time frame of, at most, two terms. When a person dies at 70, it is the end result of 70 years of accumulated factors. There is little tie to the sitting president. To suggest otherwise is about as intellectually vacuous as it gets.
What little a president can do– alter medical research funding laws, alter government assistance programs, etc– is largely not going to have an impact until after the president leaves office. As in economics, the sitting president sees, and, if the results are favorable, often takes credit for, the actions of his predecessors.
And, oh, Matt… it looks like living is some other countries is even better for your health. Will you be moving?
The government also said that U.S. life expectancy has inched up again to 77.9 years, a record high but still behind that of about two dozen other countries.
