The American View vs. William Kristol
posted in Politics, Society by themaiden |I have mixed views on The American View. Much of what appears is frightfully theocratic– “… all judicial nominees must, first, acknowledge the God of the Bible as the source of law. This would mean a pledge to disregard all human laws and/or court rulings that conflict with God’s Law” for example, and I have taken them to task on an issue or two. On the other, The American View takes Bush, and the Republican Party (admitedly for very different reasons than do I), to task just often enough to keep them, in my estimation, within hiking distance of the good side of sanity.
Today, I noticed a fairly good piece on the immigration issue that is becoming such a hot topic. I’m not especially taking sides here, though I do think we should work to achieve the most open borders possible without needlessly injuring ourselves. Nor do I advocate extremely loose borders. That simply isn’t reasonable given law enforcement necessities and economic factors.
I don’t buy the suggestion that illegal immigrants are head for head more violent or law-breaking than anyone else. However, this does represent one side of an increasingly pressing debate, so it is worth a read– William Kristol Wonders (Seriously) What Harm Illegal Aliens Have Done When They Have Murdered Scores Of Americans.
