Evolution News & the AP Isn’t a Journal of Science

posted in Creationism, Science by themaiden |

Casey Luskin warns us, “don’t let misleading diagrams in the media make you think that these apes were clear-cut similar ancestors of our genus Homo.”

He’s right. We shouldn’t be misled by pictures that appear in the media. Those pictures, diagrams and explainations are often just plain wrong, and are almost always massively oversimplified. Fortunately for scientists, scientists don’t base their conclusions on things that appear in the Associated Press. There are these things called peer-reviewed journals, which scientists use to gather information and which have a somewhat higher standard of evidence than do newspapers.

Even so, a wee bit of reading reveals that it is Luskin who is dissembling, not the press, which leads me to add my own warning. Don’t be misled by diagrams, pictures, quotations, testimonials, or divinations by animal intestines that appear in creationist publications.
