Come join me in Kissing Hank’s Ass

I first read this piece years ago, but lost the link. I am happy to have found it again. It is still one of the funniest, and most frighteningly accurate, things I have ever read, so come join me in Kissing Hank’s Ass.

Torture in the not-so-real world

I ask myself, if “Torturing even a lifeless computer character makes volunteers upset”, then what sort of mental derangement explains the Bush Administration’s stubborn efforts to exempt itself from punishment for such behavior in the real world and, ideally, to legalize such behavior in the real world? With real people?

And what about the chorus? Its members have to be every bit as deranged. Did 9/11 turn us all into sociopaths?

Few say it as well as Steve Clemons

Beating the U.S. Increasingly a Measure of Legitimacy: While Bush scoffed at this global reaction, it has since hardened into power strategies — and global leaders know that they can achieve greater legitimacy at home now by thwarting American preferences — like in the latest UN sanctions against Iran.

American diplomacy needs to take this into account. Everything we want in the world is more expensive now — not only because of a weakened dollar — but because of our deteriorating political position and the anger that so many have at this country and our president.

We wish you a Merry…

Should I wish you all a merry Christmas?

I certainly wish you all well– even the neo-cons, the creationists, and the faithful, though I do not necessarily wish your projects well.

But do I wish you all a Merry Christmas?

Do I wish you happiness in celebrating the birth of a man whom I may well have killed had I known him?

Do I wish you glad tidings in the celebration of a mixed bag of pagan rituals co-opted by one of the larger of the social cancers to have ever plagued mankind, and certainly the largest to have ever plagued the west?

A very good question at

Ungodly Politics: So, Christians and conservatives, does your silence in this matter mean you agree with the Reverend PHelps? Do you, too, “thank God for 9-11″?
