Blogs for Piercing Questions

posted in Global Warming by themaiden |

It doesn’t take much thought to answer Mark’s piercing questions, quoted below. I suppose this show just how much thought the man puts into the things he writes and believes.

What I’d like, once again, our global warming enthusiasts to answer for me:

1. What makes a person a climate scientist?

2. How many such people are there in the world?

3. How was it determined that 90% of them subscribe to anthropogenic global warming?

If these questions cannot be answer with precision, then the alleged consensus on global warming is bogus - and as this consensus is held up as the supposedly unanswerable argument in favor of global warming…

Blogs for Bush: The White House Of The Blogosphere: The Great Global Warming Swindle

Really, its a lot like asking:

1. What makes a person a doctor?

2. How many such people are there in the world?

3. How was it determined that 90% of them subscribe to the belief that smoking causes cancer?

If these questions cannot be answer(ed) with precision, then the alleged consensus on global warming cancer and smoking is bogus…

Looks a little crazier in that context doesn’t it?

By the way, Lib’ral’s head won’t explode over made for TV movies featuring discredited shills like Tim Ball.

Why not let us know what you think by adding your own comment! Your opinion is as valid as anyone elses, so come on... let us know what you think.

Your ‘re-interpretation’ of these questions take us further and further away from the issues at hand. Perhaps this is your aim. A doctor (as in MD) is someone who has undergone years of training and residency in the diagnosis of physical and mental ailments and is certified to prescribe medicines and other therapies as a cure. Therefore, by your analogy, a climate scientist should have training and the knowledge and ability to look towards potential solutions to human-induced climate changes. Angela,

How can I be polite about this?

    How about…

I wonder if the folks at DeSmogBlog know that you are out here behaving like a bad mannered troll?

Leaving DeSmogBlog’s web address as your address certainly implies an affiliation, yet I don’t see your name listed as an author on that blog. I also notice that the folks at DeSmogBlog appear fairly reasonable and not at all like the type– I could be wrong– who’d like to be affiliated with someone out posting abrasive comments on sympathetic blogs.

If you are affiliated, perhaps you missed the memo about choosing your fights wisely? Or perhaps you missed the one about not posting snark on the first shot? You see, everything you posted could have been posted politely but you choose “bitchie” instead, complete with the scare quotes and the back stabbing– “Perhaps this is your aim.” (Should have had a question at the end, by the way, darling.) Perhaps it is your aim to troll the web leaving a bad taste in people’s mouths about DeSmogBlog? If so, fine job.

As for my analogy, I could have used any of a hundred professions and the point would be the same. I could use auto repair, chemistry, cosmology… The specific profession doesn’t matter. The relevant elements of the analogy remain the same. You do know that analogies are meant for specific purposes and are binding, so to speak, only in limited ways? Only the relevant elements matter. In this case the relevant element is Noonan’s appeal to unreasonable specificity. And that element is preserved in my analogy.

[...] Noonan was just recently trumpeting a television program that was going to cause leftwing head to explode by heralding the Death of Global Warming. I commented, but let’s see what my favorite group of climate scientists have to say. On Thursday the 8th, the UK TV Channel 4 aired a programme titled “The Great Global Warming Swindle”. We were hoping for important revelations and final proof that we have all been hornswoggled by the climate Illuminati, but it just repeated the usual specious claims we hear all the time. We feel swindled. [...]

[...] A fair number of other skeptics and ‘real’ science skeptic sites are listed, but it would be tedious to list them all. Just look carefully. Look into what fields these people really are trained in, and look for connection that might bias their output. Follow the money, in other words. And look for names like James Hansen, Bob Carter, Tim Ball, Nigel Calder, and Claude Allegre, to name a few. I’m sure there are more. Shill and quacks abound in this world. [...]
