This is not my Country: July

posted in TINMC by themaiden |

Ah… another month has passed and this is still not the country I once foolishly imagined it to be.

Only a few days before we celebrate the nation’s independence and we are too eager to trample the freedoms, the ideals that that independence represents.

It is with some restrained hope, though, that I note some evidence that the nation is waking from its dogmatic slumber.

On that note, I can think of no better way to start this carnival than with Political blogger switches party affiliation and restores the GOP to pre-Bloomberg defection levels. posted at Divided We Stand United We Fall– “I mean, it is not even fun beating this dead elephant any more.”

I’ll follow with two from Wenchypoo’s Mental Wastebasket. The first of the two, Liberty in all its Glory offers a definition of ‘liberty’. The second, Rattling the Political Chain of Command, is a lesson in the political process.

Madeleine Begun Kane continues with the theme of ‘liberty’ with a post about Giuliani’s distaste for free speach– The GOP’s In For A Rudy Awakening.

Lucynda Riley also takes up the issue of freedom– the vice-president’s freedom to do whatever he fells like. This is shocking!!! posted at Quietly Into the Night.
Doug Ragan offers another kind of lesson in the political process, and one from ‘the other side’ of the political spectrum– Republican Backstabbing And Political Suicide posted at I’m a Pundit Too.

Is Islam Compatible with Democracy? Hakim Abdullah takes up what is probably one of the more important questions of our day, and his answer is one I hope many hear.

Ian Welsh, of The Agonist, also has a message I hope that many will hear– Ok, Once More: No Existential Threat .

Both David Hayes and Edith Yeung take up another important issue of the day, that of immigration. David Hayes presents Misguided Reform: The Problem of the Guest Worker posted at Frozen Toothpaste. Edith Yeung presents Fresh Off the Boat! posted at Edith Yeung.Com: Dream. Think. Act..

Next, Bull Jones talks about the press– Do we remember Nikita?

And now for the sex…

Greta Christina, of The Blowfish Blog, looks at abstinence only education in No Sex Please, We’re Democrats.

Sheppard Salter highlights some nonsense not far from where I sit. Boulder, CO– no stranger to nonsense– has had a bit of Insanity At School (Yawn?Nothing New.).

Shinie presents The Ultimate Sacrifice, posted at “Well, I guess this is growing up”, about a group of people any country desperately needs but often neglects or maligns.

Leon Gettler presents Bush hurts Enron’s investors posted at Sox First.

Jack Yoest presents Lurita Alexis Doan: Good Management Meets Bad Politics posted at Reasoned Audacity.

And Avant News closes with Rogue Goose Foils Final Missile Shield Test.

That concludes this edition. Submit your blog article to the next edition of this is not my country using our carnival submission form. Past posts and future hosts can be found on our blog carnival index page.
