Blogs for not getting the joke

posted in Blogs4Bush, Politics by themaiden |

Or maybe, “Blogs for not getting that their namesake is a joke”.

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is giving away bumper stickers that read “Sorry, W, I’m the Decider; Dems in 08″. I might order one myself, although I’m not sure I’ll stick it on my car. The Democrats have yet to “Wow!’ me. But it is funny nonetheless.

Mark, though, thinks he sees a bright light shining at the end of the tunnel.

Well, Democrats, as you get ready to be the “decider” next year, you want want to take note of the fact that President Bush won’t be on the ballot. You go ahead and run against W, we’ll run against your actual candidates, and we’ll see who wins.

The point of the joke, the punchline, is that Bush has so frelled things up that any Republican running in ‘08 is running with a huge monkey on his or her back, and that monkey looks, smells, and in fact is named “George W. Bush”. It is amazing that Noonan, normally so astute, doesn’t get it.

But the comedy continues nonetheless.

On a more serious note, this shows the depth of hatred Democrats have for a moderately conservative Republican like President Bush.

“Moderately conservative”? I can barely type from chuckling so wholeheartedly.

So extremist have they become that they have developed a white-hot hatred for a man who will meet them more than half way on education, health care, social security reform and immigration.

I’m not in any mood to debate each point individually but the way I recall recent history I’d have to say that by “meet them more than half way” Mark means “Bush couldn’t actually get his way on any of these issues so he resorted to the ‘Great Satan’ named Compromise instead” and still created junk policy.

And the coup de grace

This level of hatred is very dangerous for our nation - it illustrates a hardening of positions and an unwillingness to make an attempt to see things from a different point of view. This sort of hatred is the stuff with which civil wars are made - and my advice to you Democrats is to stop it. Really. Before you go too far.

Noonan complains about hardening of positions. It is amazing how different hard right partisan no holds barred ‘I stand on Principle and every else be damned’ political hacks sound when things stop going their way.

“Stop it! Before we go too far!” Oh my!

And civil war? That reference is really a bit disturbing.

I’ve noticed an uptick in B4B commentariat faux-fretting about an impending civil war. I saw “faux-fretting” because they always seem to use language that comes across like an abusive husband saying, “Why do you make me beat you?”

“Gee, if these liberals don’t stop, then we’re just gonna have to have a civil war.”

This coupled with a complementary uptick in the same commentariat in paranoia that somebody is going to take away their guns doesn’t pain the prettiest picture.

Incidentally, Mark Noonan, who is so very concerned about “a hardening of positions and an unwillingness to make an attempt to see things from a different point of view,” has stated outright that he will never, ever admit that anybody on “the left” is correct about anything.

I’m sure he sees no conflict between those two views. Which is sort of scary.

    DJ,

That analogy with the abusive husband looks like a good one. I’d be lying if I said it didn’t worry me.
