Happy! Happy! War! War!

A powerful statement about war…

Curiously, pacifists have long been stereotyped as sentimental and naive. But haven’t the real romantics of the past century been the misty-eyed flag-wavers, convinced that the next war will build a brave new world? Particularly in a world harboring some 30,000 nuclear weapons, those who speak about war as if it consisted of two noble knights, jousting before cheering crowds, have lost all sense of reality.

Overestimating Omnipotence

The Atheist Mama makes a mess of religious logic with only a few lines.

I once heard it ["it" being "Natural Family Planning"-- themaiden] explained that the method leaves open the opportunity for God to “give” you a child, if he so wishes. I suppose that if I were to believe in an omnipotent deity who reputably once managed to impregnate a virgin, I’d likely trust that neither a condom nor a pill full of hormones would be likely to thwart him. Perhaps I’m over-estimating omnipotence.

The War at Home:

Blue Dog presents Will China Show the Department of Homeland Security the Way? posted at Blue Dog Thoughts. “Look at the increase of federally funded videotaping and other forms of monitoring by the US government.”
