Another Reason to not like Hillary

posted in Politics, Presidential Candidates by themaiden |

Hillary Clinton looks to be the Democratic front-runner and this annoys the hell out of me. It annoys me because Hillary plays politics like a champ and that is exactly what we don’t need coming out of the travesty of government that is the Bush administration. The nation needs leadership that will help it to regain some of the integrity that was squandered… no, that was thrown away by the current administration. The nation needs principle. It doesn’t need this:

According to a report on the Grinnell University Web site, the Clinton campaign arranged for some of the questions for the candidate to be asked by college students…

God-damn it, Hillary.

“After her speech, Clinton accepted questions. But according to Grinnell College student Muriel Gallo-Chasanoff ’10, some of the questions from the audience were planned in advance. ‘They were canned,’ she said. Before the event began, a Clinton staff member approached Gallo-Chasanoff to ask a specific question after Clinton’s speech. ‘One of the senior staffers told me what [to ask],’ she said.

Ahem…

“That’s what George Bush does,” the former senator [John Edwards --Hell's Handmaiden] from North Carolina said. “George Bush goes to events that are staged, where people are screened, where the’yre only allowed to ask questions if the questions are favorable to George Bush and set up in his favor.”

Democratic rivals respond to Clinton’s planted question

And it seems this is not the first time.

In a telephone interview Saturday, Geoffrey Mitchell, 32, said he was approached by Clinton campaign worker Chris Hayler to ask a question about how she was standing up to President Bush on the question on funding the Iraq war and a troop withdrawal timeline.

Hillary supporters: please don’t get discouraged. PLEASE. She is getting attacked from all sides because people deep down know she is our only hope for America and they’re trying to ruin it for everybody. Hillary is the ONLY candidate with these 4 attributes: honor, patriotism, loyalty, and kindness. I got $35 in the bank that says no other candidate has those attributes.

All politicians have to play the game. There is no honesty in politics. The planted question is as irrelevant as whether or not she left a tip at a restaurant. Let’s hear some serious discussion of POLICY, not this mudslinging. Though I have extreme distaste for it, the Democrats also have to play the faith card. I’d rather have a Democratic administration, warts and all, than a Republican one.

Obama scares the hell out of me, he seems hopelessly naive (though some consider him refreshingly bold, I think it’s clear he cannot follow through on his promises).

And though I like Edwards also, with Hillary, you get Bill–essentially two for the price of one, and a power couple who has already done a good job for eight years running the country. Hillary (Billary) gets my vote hands down. Now she should pick Edwards as the veep and it would be my dream ticket. (Although Obama as veep would be more sure to bring the black vote, so Edwards may be SOL.)

    Vote For Hillary,

Sorry, but yours is a ridiculous comment– childish in the extreme. We are trying to ‘ruin it’ because she in the only hope? Does that really make sense to you? Why in the hell would anyone try to ruin the ‘only hope’? That is absurd. I don’t like Hillary for president for much different reasons than that. For one, I don’t think she’s the ‘only hope’ or even ‘a hope’. I think she is the same old problem in a different package.

    Blacksun,

You ought to consider the is/ought problem. What politicians do is not justification for their doing it. You admit to finding some of these tactics distasteful, yet you defend them? Something isn’t right.

I dislike Hillary for policy reasons as well. This isn’t the only issue for me. She’s lost me over the past few years. I quite liked her before that.

Obama worries me too but I’m not sure he is as bad as you seem to think.

Bill is a plus with the Hillary package but that isn’t a strong enough pull.

Honestly, I kinda like Chris Dodd– not squeaky clean either if you look deep enough but I like what he’s been doing lately. Yeah, I know. Very, very long shot.

I see it as more idealism/realism. A politician who would satisfy me personally would, for example, have to forsake religion entirely, and promise to immediately end the war on drugs. They’d have to promise to enact a carbon tax, and immediately phase out the subsidies on fossil fuels. They’d have to fire Blackwater and stop all forms of torture. They’d have to report to Congress immediately on the Iraq war and Guantanamo, and set timetables for their end. They’d have to stop deficit spending and also not raise taxes. (Which means a lot of programs would be cut or privatized.) They’d have to endorse a program of sustainability and cradle to cradle manufacturing standards and immediate mandatory recycling nationwide, etc. etc.

And yes, it would also be a plus for them to be scrupulously honest in all cases.

Such a person would be unelectable. And that was my reason for rooting for Billary. It’s the best I can probably hope for with my goals.

So while on your side Chris Dodd may be a more ideal choice, what good is it if he can’t get elected?

Maybe there is no problem. It takes a certain attitude to run a nation, and unfortunately it’s a bad one.

    Blacksun,

I don’t have standards nearly that high. Sure, I’d support most of those initiatives but you are right, that candidate wouldn’t get elected. I don’t need a candidate as extreme as that. I’m happy with one or two major issues and some integrity. Hillary is at the low end on the integrity and she’s fumbled what I consider the largest issues for the next president– the war, torture, and the general totalitarian takeover of the nation. I haven’t read all of Hillary’s energy policy but it looks to be acceptable and Bill did wonders for the nation’s finances. Unfortunately that was undone by spend-like-a-drunk-sailor-in-a-cat-house lunatic.

I absolutely think that it is horrible to say that there is no one else that is running amongst the Democratic candidates that embody those four attributes (honor, patriotism, loyalty, and kindness). You are wrong! Hello, what about Barack Obama, why does he not qualify when it comes to standing for those principles?

    Blacksun:
Why the hell does Barack have to be the vice President, why can’t Hilary be the vice president? Why are people so scared?

Quote “Bill did wonders for the nation’s finances.” Thats true if you call raiding the Social Security trust fund to blance the budget and a 3.5% spending increase wonders. It is definately better than the 22% increase made by Bush. I would prefer actual cuts and restoring the solvency of Social Security. That is why I support Ron Paul.
