posted in Religion, Society, War by themaiden |I found this article, “Afghan boy dancers sexually abused by former warlords“, about the bacha bereesh in Afghanistan by following a link from the quite obviously anti-Islam site, TheReligionofPeace– Islam: The Religion of Peace (and a big stack of dead bodies). One would think then that the link would direct to a condemnation of Islam– “Islam supports raping young boys”, that kind of thing. After all, the bacha bereesh are young boys dressed up as girls, fake breasts and all, who dance for rich men, then have sex with them. In fact the link at TheReligionofPeace is dressed up with “An article on the truly disgusting practice of exploiting young boys for sex. This happens to be in Afghanistan, where journaists are focused these days, but it is also common in other parts of the Islamic world where the sexes are segregated.” Oh… common in parts of the Islamic world. Oh, ok. Clearly Islam is too blame. Except…
“Those who do this are the devil,” said Mawlawi Mohammad Sadiq Sadiqyar, a scholar and prayer leader in the main northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif. “Under Islamic law, those who practice this should be stoned to death.”
I can’t think of a better example of the unbalanced nature of the radical criticism of Islam that has emerged over the past few years. It is hardly coherent to blame Islam when Islamic law makes ‘boy play’ criminal behavior punishable by death– hell, punishable by stoning.
The same site cites an article from The Times of India,Daughter’s pregnancy signs raised suspicion, as evidence against Islam– at TheReligionofPeace the headline reads “Man Marries Daughter - Claims Allah’s Sanction…” True, the man did cite Allah. So what? Christians cite Jesus to justify some nutball behavior. Can I infer then that Jesus really does sanction that behavior?
What I don’t see mentioned at TheReligionofPeace is that this man kept his marriage to his daughter “under wraps for more than six months” apparently because he was aware that the rest of the village– presumably some of them Muslim– wouldn’t take too kindly to it. Why?
Leading Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband has declared the marriage of a 37-year-old man with his teenaged daughter in West Bengal as null and void and ruled that the girl’s impregnation by her father will be treated as rape and the culprits will be punishable under the Shariat laws.

Stating that Islam prohibits such marriages, Darul Uloom Deoband in its ruling described the marriage as shameful and illegal according to the Shariat law.
The ruling issued by the incharge(sic) of the Fatwa department of the Islamic seminary Mufti Habibur Rehman asked the couple to break the relationship immediately to avoid harsh punishment.
I wonder why that second article from The Times isn’t listed by TheReligionofPeace? Perhaps because it indicates that marrying you daughter ain’t Islam? And that is just a buzz-killer. It is so much more fun when your enemy is absurdly whacked. You have to think less that way.
Islam is not beyond criticism, though some seem to want it to be. Sites like TheReligionofPeace don’t help though. Criticize carefully. Persecution breeds radicalization.
