Morality made me do it

posted in Sexuality by themaiden |

There are a couple of things going on here that get under my skin.

First, what kind of ass wanders around with a camera trying to catch people having sex? Honestly, the terms ‘pervert’ and ‘peeping tom’ come mind.

Second, watch the film through to the end. Lewd behavior too close to a church is a felony? It is hard to argue that that is anything other than a religious law, other than legislated morality.

    Tia,

I honestly can’t tell if your comment is sincere or sarcastic. Either way, I don’t really wonder what the world is coming to, nor do I worry about it– not, that is, when the ‘worry’ is sex. Sex has been around rather a long time. Illicit sex has been around as long. Prostitution stretches back as far as we have historical records and certainly stretches back much farther. Humanity didn’t create itself ex nihilo just at the moment we invented writing. And we’ve managed so far. Really, hiding sex from children is a pretty modern fetish. You don’t see quite the same worry about ‘corruption’ in much of history and in much of the non-western world. Not to say the opposite, that children are or should be sexualized. Its just that sex is a bodily function, like taking a whiz. Knowing it happens just isn’t all that devastating to one’s psyche.

All I can say is that guy will pay for his act one way or another. I mean come on now, he is on YouTube for everybody to recognize. That is a major issue for someone especially if you have children. It wasn’t right for him to be doing what he did in public but on the same note, I don’t think it should ruin his life either.

    Oval Office,

You can make a case for not allowing this kind of thing in public. That’s fine. I niether need nor want to see most people spanking monkeys. The actual harm caused though is pretty minimal despite prophecies of doom to the contrary. What really burns me up is that the law makes it a felony because the monkeys got spanked near a church.

In Colorado the prostitute would face class 3 misdemeanor or ordinance violation charges, while the John would face class 1 petty offense or ordinance violation charges. Each class of offense carries a 6 months maximum jail term and/or a fine plus court costs ($750 for a misdemeanor, $500 for a petty offense, $1000 for a municipal ordinance prosecuted in a court of record — 90 days and/or $300 in a municipal court not of record). In practice, time served or a few days in jail is customary, in addition to the fine and costs.

Misdemeanor offenses have few collateral effects and generally don’t pile up to incur recidivist penalties like felonies do.

    Howdy.

I was hoping you’d pop in for this one. I was wondering about Colorado law, but have been too busy to ask. Thanks.

The sad part is that if Prostitution was legal it would be happening away from public view in buisnesses set up for the purpose. Instead we have women soliciting in public parks and performing these acts behind churches, but these type of people don’t even want to talk about this posibility.

Maybe you are right and a peepingtom has found a disguise for his actions. I think church and state should clearly be divided or at the end there is a new christian fundamentalism, from which none of us will benfit.

    rainer,

My default position is that you are attracted to things which… well… attract you. Thus, ‘drawn to chasing prostitutes with a video camera’ equals something probably more lecherous than moral.

That second bit really burns me up though. ‘Felony if near a church’ pretty clearly indicate a bias in favor of religion. I’m not thrilled with having that in the law books.
