Why bother with making sense… when you have peanut butter

posted in Creationism, Politics by themaiden |

This must be one of the more amusing ‘debunkings’ of evolution I’ve seen thus far. Have a look. think of it as a kind of ‘how many layers of stupid can you find’ game. I love the little speech given by the frumpy lady starting about ten seconds in.

Several videos follow the break.

This ‘peanut butter nightmare’, though, pales in comparison to the ‘banana nightmare’.

Now, some of you might be thinking “Oh, well just calling these videos stupid isn’t really fair. Why don’t you debunk them if you’re so smart?” Honestly, I’ve been through this stuff several times on this site already. Its your turn. Think for yourself. Hint: It helps to actually know what something about the subject.

Addendum: Bacon Eating Atheist Jew, who maintains a blog of the same name and one worth visiting, has stepped up and offered still more proof that evolution is wrong.

In the peanut butter video, they’re not even talking about evolution at all, they’re talking about abiogenesis. It doesn’t follow that if life can rarely develop from primordial soup + lightning, then we should sometimes see “new life” in peanut butter. And, you know what? Even if a peanut butter jar did spontaneously develop “new life” you wouldn’t be able to tell! You would have amoebas in your peanut butter. They’re opening these PB jars expecting to find bugs or something — it took millions of years to get from amoebas to bugs!

These guys just don’t understand a single one of any of the concepts they’re dealing with.

    Chicken Girl,

    Welcome.

    Yup. Exactly.

I’ve compiled a whole string of problems with that video but I’m holding off posting that list for now.

You’d think that before making a video these guys would get their story straight. Why is common sense absent from science in some people?

    Collin,

I’m assuming you mean the ‘peanut butter’ guys need to get their story straight?

I guess my common didn’t really make sense in context, I just also noticed several inconsistencies and figured that before making a video, it would be smart to make sure there were no self contradictions in your argument. If that makes sense. Regardless, I appreciate your post, and enjoy the site.

    Colin,

You’d think people would do a bit of research before posting for the public to see. That doesn’t seem to be the case, though, in general– and I can’t explain it.

Thanks for posting those videos. The banana argument is by far one of my favorite creationist delusions. I hadn’t seen the peanut butter argument before though so I am adding that one to my collection. If I ever get around to posting them I’ll make sure and link back here.

I added a little fire support from the perspective of a person of faith. Oh Great Primorial Presence, these people are an embarrassment. Could you, ya know, do something?

Oh, that’s our job? Well, Sir, may I say that considering the position of Your Intelligent Followers, a wee little help with the heavy lifting might JUST be in order. Extra nails for the cluebats, perhaps. Perhaps a rumor that combat experience cures impotence? I’m just askin’…

I propose that we have people take a sample out of every jar of peanut butter that they open and send it to a lab to be analysed for new life. That way the experiments these people are talking about could actualy be done and we could get to the bottom of this whole mess about evolution. ;)

Huey55… right… exactly… except that if new life were found some clown would soon be claiming it as proof that creation is ongoing… or something
