This is not my Country

I’ve written several posts now titled some variant of “This is not my country”– a list of which appears below– and I’d say that half the site or more deals with the theme, by necessity not by choice. I’d much rather write on philosophy, science, religion, political theory and general social issues; but I’ve been forced by current events to focus heavily upon practical politics.

My government has been slipping more and more away from its principles, from its foundations, and the people of the nation have been slipping with it and apologizing for it. From another post: “Our ancestors stood up to the English Crown and won freedom. We, as a nation, stand up to a loose band of criminals, and cower. We cower by surrendering our freedoms to a would-be tyrant because he promises protection. We cower by sacrificing principle. We cower by chipping away at the stones upon which the nation rests. We cower by building cells around ourselves and padding them with promises of safety. Safety be damned!

And so this carnival. Its name– This is Not My Country– reflects the kind of content I am looking for. If your post reflects the sentiment that the country– any country, in fact– has lost its way, lost its principle, then I’ll include it. Political orientation will not be considered. Argue with me, if you will.
