An Open Letter to Blogger Bloggers

Blogger bloggers please don’t make me login with my Google/Blogger account in order to post a comment. I realize that this is spam control, but find some other solution– like, oh, migrate to WordPress :). Sincerely, though, you are losing traffic. Why? Every time I want to post on a Blogger blog and I have to login with my Google/Blogger account I have to look up the damned password. Then I get frustrated with you, with Blogger, with your blog.

Kind of a dream come true

I really hope this project takes off, partly because I feel such sympathy for something I found in their FAQs.

    Do you really expect to be able to detect and filter anything that’s conceivably stupid?

  • No, of course not. You’d need real AI for that, and beyond a certain point it’s simply subjective; after all, a sufficiently advanced AI would probably filter out the whole of human discourse, which isn’t the idea.
  • StupidFilter :: Main / FAQ

Godspeed, StupidFilter.

A mind bending hypercube puzzle

This has got to be one of the coolest things I’ve ever found while wasting my time online:

4d cube

What is it? Why it is a “a fully functional four-dimensional analog of Rubik’s cube”, obviously.

There is even a 5D version of the cube, and a curiously puzzling 2d version as well.

Spam science. Spam magnet.

Admittedly, this is a wee bit of a snarky post, but I’ve got to get this off my chest.

I have a post titled “Ohio State Board of Education Repeals “Bad Science” Lesson Plan; Creationists are annoyed”. It seems to get targeted for spam more than anything else on the blog. I do not conclude this lightly. I’ve been wanting to write this post for months but kept telling myself that it is all in my head. Still, day after day, week after week, this one post keeps getting hit. I can’t shake the feeling that this says something– that is says something about the gullibility, the intelligence, the education of the creationistically inclined.
