So steeped that cover-ups aren’t cover-ups and no one really cares that those at the top of our power structure falsified a story. Folks, if we don’t wake up we are doomed.
The good news is that a lie about a fatal mistake — told to a dead soldier’s parents and the rest of the world by four generals and at least half-again other officers — didn’t constitute a cover-up.

… a couple of articles on a recent Bush Team power grab.
The story dates back to March 2006, when President Bush signed the reauthorization of the USA Patriot Act. The bill included a provision (inserted by a staffer to Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) at the request of the Justice Department) allowing the DOJ to appoint U.S. attorneys indefinitely without a presidential nomination or Senate confirmation (previously, this type of appointment could last only a maximum of 120 days). In late 2006, the administration fired eight U.S. attorneys, insisting each dismissal was motivated by performance.

I’m going to give Noonan some credit. Most of the time I think he’s a lunatic, but he’s right about this one.
But if you say something is wrong, then you oppose it with ever fibre of your being.
…
If you think it is right, then you keep fighting and striving, certain that victory will be worth the cost - if you think it wrong, then you keep trying to stop it, certain that continuing will be more costly than any other result. If, on the other hand, your opposition to the war is a political calculation based upon polls, MSM memes and carefully scripted propaganda designed to demoralise the American people, then when given the opportunity to shut down what you allegedly think is wrong, you merely propose a non-binding bit of legislative sh**-paper and hope this placates your base while not compromising your national security credentials for the 2008 campaign.

At the risk of committing a truly foolish understatement, and at the risk of loading of the question, I am going to venture to say that anyone who’s been paying attention to Iraq has long since known that things there haven’t been going quite as well as the Bush team pretends. Anyone paying attention has also probably concluded that incompetence in the White House has played no small role in this mess. That is, of course, ignoring the issue of the war’s justification.

Lets start with the light stuff.
There is Lonelygirl15, a curious bit of corporate sponsored false reality– perhaps. ((Be sure to read comment #1))
Lonelygirl15 appears to be an innocent, home-schooled 16-year-old, pouring her heart out for her video camera in the privacy of her bedroom. But since May, her brief posts on the video-sharing site YouTube and the social networking hub MySpace have launched a Web mystery eagerly followed by her million-plus viewers: Who is this sheltered ingenue who calls herself “Bree,” and is she in some sort of danger — or, worse, the tool of some giant marketing machine?
