A Climate Grab Bag

I was asked by my girlfriend to put together a kind of list of global warming resources so that she can email it to some skeptical friends and associates. I might as well make that list do double duty.

The best single source on the web for global warming information is Realclimate. You can search the site for just about anything relevant to climate change and find articles ranging from ‘layman’ to ‘very technical’ but not quite ’science journal technical’. I realize that the mere mention of RealClimate makes skeptic neck hair stand on end. I can hear the cries of ‘bias’ already. I don’t care. I’ve been reading RealClimate for quite some time now and I am quite convinced that for a layman targeted site, that is where you get the most honestly evaluated analysis of the data.

Bob Carter’s Mythology: The IPCC

This article covers the last of the points made in “The Myth of Dangerous Human-Caused Climate Change (PDF)”, Bob Carter’s frontal assault on the science of global warming. First, a recap.

  1. Part I is a fairly light introduction.
  2. Part II digs into Carter’s claim that we have no theory of climate and hence can’t deal with what climate information we do have.
  3. In Part III, I addressed Carter’s statements about carbon dioxide.
  4. Carter then takes up the issue of general circulation modeling– that is, computer modeling– of global climate
  5. Followed by “Is there a consensus?“.

Reality Has Just Caught Up With You

Blacksun was kind enough to link to me so I’m returning the favor, but this is no frivolous tit-for-tat.

What does the pretty picture mean? Head to Black Sun Journal and find out.

No Explicit Denial?

I’ve noticed that a few– and I’m sure there are more– blogs on the right have been jumping for joy over a recent survey of research papers that, to quote the Daily Tech, “Of 528 total papers on climate change, only 38 (7%) gave an explicit endorsement of the consensus. If one considers “implicit” endorsement (accepting the consensus without explicit statement), the figure rises to 45%. However, while only 32 papers (6%) reject the consensus outright, the largest category (48%) are neutral papers, refusing to either accept or reject the hypothesis. This is no “consensus.”

Wow. No consensus?

Ray Evans’ ‘Nine facts about climate change’

I came across “Nine Facts About Climate Change (PDF)”, by Ray Evans, while working on my series about Bob Carter’s “The Myth of Dangerous Human-Caused Climate Change (PDF)”.

Evans begins with the brilliant observation that “1. Climate change is a constant.”

Wow! Profound. This is the stuff of paradigm shattering legend. I mean, it is almost like asserting that water flows downhill. Genius. But he’ll have a hard fight getting that one accepted by the main stream scientific community.
